"The Last Temptation", published in the first original edition in 1955 and considered a masterpiece, is one of the most famous novels by the greatest Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis. This controversial interpretation of the evangelical life of Jesus Christ has been the subject of both praise and condemnation. The book was banned by the Vatican and Martin Scorsese's equally controversial film version (1988) brought the novel to worldwide fame.
